Ripoff Dishonest Fraudulent

For the last 2 years I have had a collection account appearing on my credit report for a supposed unpaid medical bill. I have never received notification of the debt that I can recall. I don't receive phone calls about the debt. I don't know the account number. I finally got NCO's number from their website and decided to call them to request a bill so I could pay the debt because there is a strong possibility it is valid.

When I called NCO the first representative I spoke with said the account has been closed since November and told me to speak with someone in their credit reporting department. I called that department and was told the account was listed as being in bankruptcy. The problem with that is that I have never filed bankruptcy but my father, who was the responsible party for my medical bills until I turned 23, did file bankruptcy. The account also is in my father's name but has only my SSN.

Then I noticed that this account is responsible for his name being on the personal information section of my credit report and it will not be removed until the account is deleted. I was told to send a letter containing this information to NCO and that it would be removed from my report but with all that I have read about NCO I don't have much faith in that. Any suggestions on what I should do if it still is not resolved after I send the letter?
