Dishonest and rude customer service

This whole mess started when my husband who I had just married went to Kuwait for 5 months. He is in the air force. His mother called and said some people (west asset management) had been harassing her about his debt. So I called the number and talked to a man named Louie. He basically pressured me to set up payments and give him my husband's account information. Unknowing at the time, I did not have the right to give out that information. I was not on my husband's account. He told me that my power of attourney was good enough. It was not. The bank has to accept my power of attourney and has to add me to his account, but only for special things. I can't sign checks or anything like that. My husband wasn't even sure he owed this debt. And only getting to talk to him for 15 minutes a day didn't help things much. So I tried to call them back and have them wait until he got back from Kuwait to set up a payment plan. We basically argued on the phone for about an hour til he hung up on me. I went to the attournies on base. They advised me to just wait until he got back. This continued when my husband returned. The guy decided he didn't want to accept any kind of payment unless it was in full. So we went back to the lawyer and the lawyer told us to manually keep sending checks to them anyways. Of course, they accepted the checks. And we just pay them every month at our own pace. The guy was really dumb, he kept making up laws that didn't exsist, and he was talking to a lawyer. Then he tried to say that our lawyer wasn't a real lawyer and he was going to have his bar. Our lawyer filed a complaint with the BBB.

However, luckily since everything has happened. We are almost paid off. Although, they still never send us a statement. And the place in Georgia is gone due to the hurricane. And we have a different person handling our account. He told us very valuable information. He is not pushy and doesn't try to hang up on us. He explained that if you settle, it stays on your credit report. So it's better to just pay it off in payments for the whole amount. I don't know if there is a difference in who they hire in their different offices, but I would be sure to keep a look out for these people.
