Ripoff to get bank and personal information

Business & Finance

I received a call on a Friday evening from a guy named Maveick Johnson, a person with a thick accent and hard to understand, he told me that I had received a grant from the state of Califonia for $12,500. My fiance and I have filled out paperwork for grants and scholarships so I thought that maybe one of them had gone through. Maveick told me that we would receive a check for $500 the following day, which was a Saturday, and the $12,000 would be deposited directly into our checking account.

I gave him all of my personal information and our banking information. I had to answer yes or no to a long list of offers like the long distance companyies and such. After that I wondered where my money was the next day. I thought maybe since it was a government affair that by tomorrow he meant monday, I am still waiting and hoping that it is coming, but my fiance had the same thing happen to her last year for $5,000 and she said that it never came and she could never get a response from the numbers they gave her either.

Maveick gave me two numbers, and I haven't been able to get a response even though i sat on the phone for four hours. 866-503-7345 is the number they gave me and it only repeats that someone will be there soon to answer, and 800-923-8939 which tells you how long it will be, the estimated time just keeps going up while you wait to be answered. I have a confiramtion number and everything, they said that we would need it because the bank would have to call to confirm the deposit. Is there any way that we know if it is legit? Are we entitled to the money? Is there a lawsuit pending?
