Purchased short term disability policy from AFLAC. Was injured at work [torn cartilage]. Having the option to try and work through pain or go out on compensation and collect benefits I chose to tuff it out.

Some days my knee would swell to twice it's size by the end of the day. When I got a date for surgery 4 mos. Later after waitng the usual time to have all the tests done and approved. I was informed by Aflac that because I worked with my injury and did not go out of work within 90 days of the injury my claim was denied.

I don't deny the policy states total disability within 90 days of injury. I believe there should be some sort of adjustment made for people who save aflac money by working through their injury [in my case they saved $4,000]. By denying claims in this manner it only encourages you to go out on workmans compensation immediatly and to collect all the money you can. Being an employee representitive it also leaves me with the question of what to tell employees when they come to me for advice when in the same situation?
