Business & Finance

A student of mine started receiving cell phone call solicitations yesterday which continued today. The caller has a foreign accent (Indian or Pakistani), stating that her name has been randomly drawn to receive a grant from the Federal government.in order to receive this money, she needs to give them her bank account number for the funds transfer. She wisely informed me of her calls and I then answered the next call from this company to interrogate them further. The lady stated that the money was a grant from the government and that she had been randomly chosen to receive this money, although she had never applied for any grant money. I notified the woman that my student would NOT be giving her any bank account numbers. After requesting that she mail whatever information she had to my student, the caller hung up. After that conversation, the company tried at least twice to make contact by cell phone again with my student. I instructed her NOT to answer the calls, and we contacted the local authorities to file a police report. They suggested she contact the Florida state Attorney General's office and also perhaps the Florida Better Business Bureau. We even contacted the Seminole County Sheriff's office and gave them the address where the suspicious activity may be taking place. They stated that they could not proceed to act upon our report without a contact from our local Maine authorities. It sounds like law enforcement is not interested in helping consumers with these matters, so PROTECT YOURSELF AND ALL OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!
