Advantage America
Ripoff Thought They Had My Bank Account info

Business & Finance

I received a call from Advantage America... On my cell phone. They told me that I had been selected to receive $12,500 as a government grant, for having paid my taxes. I told them that there are other families which need the grant and that I wasn't interested.

However, they were persistent. Somehow, they had my mame, address, and my checking account number. They asked me to read them the second part (my bank account number), so that they could make sure that they had the right person. Okay, so I read them my number, but I changed some of the digits. The lady said, "Thank you. That's the number we had." I told her that I knew she was lying, because I had made up the number. She said, "Oh. I meant that the first part is right. I didn't hear the second"— at which point, she switched me over to her manager, who again asked for the number of my bank account. I asked her where they were located, and she told me that they are located in Florida and gave me a webaddress. And then she asked me for my bank account number, so that they could give me some sort of ID. I told her that if they were really intent on sending me this grant, they could send the information to me by mail, or send me a check... I didn't need anything to be directly deposited into my account. Again, the manager repeatedly asked me for the number. So I told her, "This isn't out of disrespect to you, but how would you feel if a stranger called your cell phone, told you that you were receiving 12,500 dollars and then asked you for your bank account number?" She hung up on me.

I'm writing this so that no one is fooled. It's obviously fake, but I can see how other 17 year old girls could be tricked into it.
