Midland Credit Management (aka) MCM ripoff

About 3 years ago I received a bill from Midland Credit Management asking for a payment of $1,284.65!! I didn't know what for! So I called! Asked them why I owed them and they said they bought this debt from Master Card! Master card? I have never owned a credit card! So I told them I have never owned a credit card and they said for me to call Master Card and get the information from them about this case!

I call Master Card and after a week or 2, I finally talk to someone who knows this... They have no information on that card because it was sent to MCM! So I call MCM again, I ask for information on this debt! Guess what, yup, my time had expired to gather information on this case. Now they cannot tell me ANYTHING except that I owe this money to them! I have requested repeatedly for them to show me documents with MY signature on it. Even asked what this money and card had purchased, to no avail!

I was then told to call my police station and report identity theft. I call and was informed that this may have came from a Debit card. Well I have owned 2 debit cards. Then the officer tells me that I can file the report but if they find that this was a debit card deal, I could go to jail or get fined for reporting a false report! Now I am scared! I start thinking, "What if...".
So once again, I get the 1,286th call from MCM wanting payment and I tell them for the 1,286th time to send something with my signature on it!

Well this A*HOLE I was speaking with says, "Mrs. Pace (in a rude tone) JUST SAY YOU AREN'T GOING TO PAY THIS!" So I say, "I'M NOT F*CKING PAYING THIS!!!" and he hangs up on me!

Now I have called everywhere trying to get documentation of this "Master Card Purchase", scared to file a report with Sheriff's Office and I am now BALD from pulling my hair out!

This is where it gets good... (like there is ANY good to this)

I receive a letter from MCM stating they will ACCEPT $642.33 of this bill and call it PAID IN FULL! I call and tell them I would pay, JUST TO GET THIS OFF MY CREDIT REPORT! But I really don't want to pay this! And now I see that even if you pay off these things, they can still be on your report for an undertermined amout of time! What's the use of paying? I tried to call to ask more about this and the lady I need to speak with is on VACATION and will not be back until the 10th!

I cannot afford a lawyer, I wish I could! And what really stinks is my credit is in good standing except for MCM! They are hurting my score BAD! I have tried to get a car (due to gas prices) and could not get approved for that! Why you ask, MCM!

I tried flagging this on my credit report, that didn't help any!

*sigh* I am so at a loss now! Where do I go from here? Can anyone help!? I want to pay this, but at the same time, I don't! Help!!!
