RIPOFF collections stole double the money that was owed them in payment recovery

Due to an stupid error on my part in finding an old deposit slip in my glovebox, I deposited my paycheck to a seldom-used checking account and wrote checks on my regular checking account.
As soon as I got notice from Certegy that I had returned checks from a local establishment, I immediately went to my bank, withdrew the funds and purchased a Certified Check to cover the money. I mailed it out that day - the total was $595 $100 in fees for 5 checks.
Within a week, Certegy also submitted my original checks for payment! Now they had double my money! Of course they all cleared, leaving my finances in shambles.
This happened in June, it is now September and I have yet to receive my refund of the overpayment.
I have called and called, got the run-around from dozens of sale reps and supervisors. I cannot believe how many excuses this outfit comes up with.
1) We have not received your cashiers check.
2) We have no proof that your checks have cleared.
3) We need a signed letter from your bank.
4) We need a copy of your certified check front and back that cleared.
5) We need a copy of your bank checks that cleared.
My bank manager and I complied with all of the above several times.
In response:
6) We did not receive your fax.
7) As of today (Sept. 20) a Supervisor tells me, "The last note we have on the computer is from September 2nd saying we do not have the signed letter"
Arghhhh!
My frustration at the incompetence of this outfit has prompted this letter and a formal complaint filed with the NYS Attorney General's office.
If they are doing this to me, they are doing this to countless others.
My hope is that they are severely fined - perhaps with a class action suit similar to the AOL suit now in process.
They should be made accountable for the shabby way they are treating those of us who pay our debts in a timely fashion.
