Ripoff-incorrect posting of mortgage payments

My home loan is with Washington Mutual and I just got a letter stating that my loan is in collections and will be turned over for forclosure if I don't immediately pay 3 months mortgage payments plus late fees for 2004. I'm not behind 3 months. I called several times waiting on hold each time up to 15 minutes, finally got a representative named Wanda who put me on hold to susposedly do research and she transferred me back in que. When I called back again I got the same representative... Who didn't remember speaking with me 15 minutes prior. She told me that I was behind Sept 04, Jan 05 and May 05. I reviewed all my bank statements for 2004 and 2005 and I have made all payments but Jan 05. I didn't realize the check had been returned for insufficent funds and never resubmitted. I offered to pay for this check, but was told I couldn't send any money until this was resolved.

I also spoke with a "call center" representative who reviewed my payment history for 2004 and 2005 and she agreed that I had not missed any payments, except the returned check, but told me that I needed to file a payment discrepancy... Meantime they said they can still process for foreclosure!

I did fax a payment discrepancy letter requesting them to review my account, but am very upset that I have to prove to them I made payments when they told me over the telephone that they received them.

When speaking with their collections department, they immediately want your financial information to try to redue your loan... At much higher interest rates. They said this is to try to prevent foreclosure.
