Merchant Guide Credit Company sent fake bill to credit union ripoff

I received a letter from Merchant Guide Credit Co. Saying that I owed CFB Financial LLC 8,572.00 and it was from the year 2000. The origianl company was Southpoint, whom I called and they had no information on me, they were a mortgage lending co. This bill is suppose to be for a car.

I call merchant credit and asked for CFB's phone number and they said that they could not legally give out CFB's number. I have never heard of CFB or Southpoint financial. I bought a car in 2000 from a local dealer and made payments here and car was paid in full but it was for about the same amount. This 8,572.00 bill was placed on my credit report. I bought a car and found that I ended up paying a high interest because this is on my credit report.

Merchant Guide told me that I would pay this money and the only way that they would take it off was if the FBI said this was identy theft. I called Equifax and they were no help, I asked how they verified that this was me and she said that they have my name and social security number so that is enough info to put it on my credit file. I am writing merchant credit to show me signed documents, but I doubt if I get anything back they were so rude. But my credit is ruined because of these people.
