Ripoff... Credit report scam... Multimple charges... Customer service tipped me off

I ordered a 3 in 1 credit report from the TransUnion website (a reputable major credit reporting agency, mind you) for $29.95. I was subsequently forwarded to a website with the header "True Credit Brought to you by TransUnion."

All seemed well and good as I was able to view my credit report online, no problem. However, checking my bank account online later that evening I noticed two charges both from True Credit, both for $29.95.

I found the Customer Service number and called. I immediately smelled a rat when the name of the company was never mentioned. Simply "Thank you for calling customer service, " or something to that effect.

When I got an operator, her english was not very understandable, and she greeted me with a demand of my SSN# or account #. When I explained about the extra charge she said something about needing my bank's fax number.

It seemed uncomfortable to me and I ended the call and immediately called my bank. Since it was so soon the charges were on a hold status and had not yet posted to my account and my bank was unable to take action yet. I will check back tomorrow to see if they both post, and tehen dispute the charge and let my bank investigate.

I the searched the net for ripoffs concerning this company and found this usacomplaints.com site. It is interesting and ironic to see how a tool such as a credit report which can be instrumental in avoiding fraudulent activity can be a contributor to it.

Incidentally, in the fine print on TrueCredit's website it states that they are a wholly owned subsidiary of TransUnion. If that is true I am disturbed and disappointed that a major credit reporting agency would be perpetrating this type of fraud.
