Superior Asset Management
Ripoff and give me the run-around

Business & Finance

I received a copy of my credit report today. I knew that AT&T had reported me to a collection agency regarding a previous account I had with them. These were bogus charges to begin with, which is why they were not paid.

Anyway, the most current collection statement I received was from a law firm in Georgia. When I called them to attempt to settle the account, they stated they would accept 50% of the original amount for settlement, but stated they could not send me a letter of any kind, nor update my account with the credit bureaus. For that, I would have to call Superior Asset Management (herein referred to as "SAM"), which is who they report to.

This became very difficult, because this law firm refused to give me SAM's number, stating they didn't have that information. Yeah, RIGHT! Anyway, so I was told to call AT&T, which is now Cingular Wireless, and ask them if they could send me the letter. They stated the account was written off in January of they have nothing to do with it anymore. They did, however, give me SAM's number, as well as the number of one other collection agency they'd previously sent the account to.

At this point, I called the number I was given by AT&T for SAM. These people could not even find my account number, stated I was calling the wrong number, and gave me another number to call. I was given the phone number of 1-800-841-2349 first. They couldn't find my information or account number in their database, either. They then referred me to another phone number, which was 1-800-277-1653.

I then spoke to someone else, who stated that they found my name, but the account number I provided them with was incorrect. They gave me a new account number, but yet another phone number to call. This number was 1-800-430-7145. I called this number and spoke with Mr. Lynn at X1144, and he stated he couldn't find any of my information in the database, either. He then told me to call yet another phone number. This number was 1-800-862-4186.

I called this phone number and was again told they could find none of my information in the database and gave me yet another phone number to call This phone number was 1-888-696-1900 X 1140. I spoke with a woman named Pam and she said she was the manager, but again could find none of my information in any of their database.

I finally explained to her that I was sick and tired of getting bounced around and all I was trying to do was settle an account that I really didn't owe in the first place, but was tired of it appearing on my credit report. All she could tell me was to call her back the beginning of next week and see if she had found the account by then.

Obviously, I was given too much of the run-around by these people. They are listed as the credit collection agency for my old AT&T Wireless account, yet NONE of their employees can find any of my information in their databases!

I am tired of these bogus charges appearing on my credit report and want them removed, which is why I was attempting to settle the debt, despite the fact that I don't really owe the money.

I agree with other people that SAM is a complete ripoff company. Since they obviously cannot find any of my information, it must not be their account and they should have to delete that information from my credit report, yet they are refusing to do so and they can't even give me a correct phone number to call and speak to someone who could take care of doing this.

I would advise anyone who has a collection account with these people to beware of what they really are and report them to the BBB. I spent over an hour on the phone today trying to get this taken care of and it is absolutely ridiculous! Beware of SAM and of Cingular (formerly AT&T) Wireless!!! They will spam your account and change your plan without your permission and this could happen to you! Don't let it happen to you, beware of these rip-offs!
