Deceptive practices and flat out lies leave us feeling helpless and out of hard earned money! Ripoff

TCF bank has once again left me and my family angry and frustrated. Several years ago we had an account with TCF and they completely messed up our account and it took me months to get it straightened out. I finally got the account closed. We chose another bank.

Recently my wife opened up another account with them. They said eveything was fine and let her open the account. I went the next day and added myself to the account.

Days later my wife went to go withdraw some of the over $800 I had deposited and they wouldn't let her. They had put a freeze on the money without ever telling us.

They gave her some crazy story about her opening an account with them years ago and running the account to negative $800. She NEVER opened an account with them by herself. We were with another bank at that time.

When she asked TCF why they allowed her to open the account knowing this info they palyed dumb. She called everyone she could to find out what was going on only to get the run around.

My wife called the fraud department and did all the necessary paperwork to have TCF investigate this alleged account of hers. They said they would be in touch with us. We heard nothing.

My wife called today to discover that the account had been closed by TCF and they took my money. They never bothered to call us and tell us this was happening. When she tried to get some answers... Again she was given the run around.

We never got any checks or debit cards and basically had no say in anything. I am now out $800 plus dollars which was being saved for our family trip this June. We want to know why they opened the account knowing this old information exsisted and why they never said a word to us. I would have never put the money in the account if I knew there was a problem.

Why are they allowed to just put holds on accounts without notifying people? Why do they not try and help their customers instead of stealing from them? We feel helpless right now. So many people we talked to have had similar experiences. Why has nothing been done about it.

We will NEVER open another account with TCF, ever and we are telling all of our friends and family about their business practices. I hope if nothing else people will read this and chose another bank and save themselves the anguish we have experienced... Twice!
