Ripoff Scam Dishonest fraudulent claim that I owe AT&T Wireless money for non-existent account

I received a letter dated December 14 stating that I owed $702.78 on an AT&T Wireless Account. I called the 800 number and spoke to someone calling himself "Mr. Henderson" who said they had bought the debt 100% from AT&T. I told him I had never had an AT&T Wireless Account and he said it must be someone using my name and SS# to obtain credit and he would mark it as a case of fraud and that the account would be put on hold pending an investigation and I would receive details of the account within 30-days.

I asked for the telephone number in question and he gave me a number 917-873-6760 and that it was set up in June 1998 and cancelled by AT&T Wireless in November 1998 after they did not receive any payments at all.

After hanging up, I checked the 917 area code and found that it was a New York number so I called this guy back and gave him that information and said that I was now suspicious about this whole matter. He said he had forgotten to tell me that the matter had been reported to the Credit Agencies on July 19 and it was on my credit report and would stay there. I told him that they could not put such information on my report if I was disputing the claim and he said that I was wrong and it would stay there.

He then went on to say that most people settled in order to save their credit and that really made me suspicious, not just about the alleged debt, but about Palisades Collections because what he was saying to me made not sense at all. At that time all I had was a PO Box Number to send any payments to and that also made me suspicous.

That night I investigated this company and discovered that this is a major scam and I am amazed that they continue to do this even though there are countless stories like mine.

Yesterday, I received another notice from them which is illegal because I had filed a dispute with them last week. I have reported this to the AG's in MA and NJ and intend to pursue this company to stop them doing what they have to me and seemingly to lots of other people and it is the same SCAM.

I am fighting this so if anyone else wants to join the fight, I would like to hear from them.
