Vanderbilt Mortgage
Ripoff be wary

Business & Finance

Vanderbilt Mortgage purchased the mortgage on my home from Associates Finance in December. Unfortunately about a month after the mortgage was purchased my husband lost his job. This began a nightmare that lasted until September when I told Vanderbilt they can have the house!

During this time period my husband was never able to find a job with a salary even close to what he had made in the past, we filed a Chapter 13 bankruptcy (by the way this doesn't help if there is not enough income to support the plan payment), and Vanderbilt got a Motion to Lift Stay to have the house taken out of the bankruptcy. I cannot count how many times a rep from Vanderbilt has contacted me at work telling me what a terrible person I am and that they are going to come get my house so I have to get out.

Several of my payments were made by Western Union Quick Collect and I kept the receipts and Vanderbilt denied receiving almost everyone of these payments. I learned a valuable lesson - keep all Western Union receipts, all bank statements showing a payment to Vanderbilt, all cancelled checks, any documentation you have to prove payments were made. Last year Vanderbilt was alleging that they were trying to collect payments from as far back as 5 years when they did not even have the note! I could prove some of these were made, but not all of them.

In May I paid Vanderbilt Mortgage over $2,000 which was to get my account caught up! Well that only made the payments through April. I made a payment in June which I thought was for June. I got a call in July (at work of course) and was told that the payment I made in June was for May so I need to pay the payments for June, July, August and September. Yes, September and it was only July. They told me that if I wanted to keep my house I would have to pay in advance. Guess what? I found a house to rent and told them they could come get it.

They also had to pay the taxes that were due on it. The house is still sitting in the same place, on land owned by my mother-in-law with no one living in it. I believe they should pay my mother-in-law lot rent for every month that it has been vacant on her property. I still receive correspondence from Vanderbilt and do enjoy calling and telling a rep how stupid they are for sending it. They tell me that the computer generates this mail and it can't be stopped. Sounds to me like they need to get their heads out of their * and learn how to use a computer. The last letter raised my payment over $400 per month to include the taxes they had to pay and insurance for the house. I cancelled my insurance on August 31st.

My message is - if vanderbilt holds your mortgage - keep everything! Keep a log of who you talk to, time and date, because someone else will be there next week. Keep every bank statement, receipt or anything proving your payment was made. And remember - they have to live with themselves after they make you feel like pure dirt.

I could write for days about the experience I had with Vanderbilt without making one positive comment about this company.
