Failed ATM withdrawal still charged to my SSI debit card

To all SSI seniors getting their monthly retirement deposit sent to Direct Express,

What a total mistake having these heartless idiots hold my money. It takes 1 to 3 hours to reach someone in customer service, if you don't get disconnected. I went to a federal credit union ATM so I could withdraw $300.00 to direct deposit rent money, but the transaction failed and the funds were charged anyway. Now, after contacting them, they want to mail me a dispute form. The credit union has returned the funds, but they have no record. They say it might take 30 days to resolve, with no dispute. They really don't want to help and don't care how long they can delay. Worst service and support possible. Meanwhile that money barely pays my electricity, internet, food and gas. They got me up the creek, and most places are not accepting Mastercard anymore.

My advice is to open an account at a good bank, have an ATM Visa card for that bank, and make sure that bank owns the machine, for best service. Now you are dealing with one party to resolve a problem. Having a poor card that many places do not accept, that is not managed by a real bank, and that is not tied into the in-house ATM, is not what you want when you need your funds. The credit union, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, was good to work with.

The ATM was broken and had to be repaired.
