Continued automatic bank payment for a loan already paid in full. Plus no refund. - Student Loan

My wife cosigned a student loan for her son which he did not pay on. Of course they came after her, making several harrassing and threating phone calls to her and to me, for the payments and she set up payments thru automatic bank payments. About 3 weeks ago she made a balloon payment of over $7000. Which paid off the loan. At that time she asked to make sure that the $1500. Payment at the end of March wouldn't be taken out due to the fact that the loans were paid off. She (I) was assured that that wouldn't happen. Well, the $1500 was taken out and now that we are trying to get it back we are getting a run around. Yesterday I was told that I had to send in a copy of the check. There was no check due to the fact that you took the money out automatically. Now we are told it could take a week to 10 days. Sure didn't take you that long to take our money...
