Ripoff fraud claims on credit report

My wife to be and I were filling out credit apps for a home loan. Her credit is far from perfect however we had already paid off all of her credit dings. Nine months after everything was paid we get a credit check and find Jefferson Capital System on an account opened in may. Never Happened!!!
Can't find a phone or fax number, when I got in touch with fingerhut they said that company is no longer in business, they closed in 2002. Several people have gave me phone numbers but so far none are correct. How do I get this off her credit report? Who do I get in touch with? What can I do?
