Amex Walmart Bluebird
Don't even think about getting the amex bluebird debit card!

Business & Finance

The best way to start is to simply say "STAY AWAY FROM THIS CARD!"
I applied for this card online, along with my partner and my mother (all from the same address) and received them in about 5 days! I read all about this NEW and 'revolutionary" 'check/debit card'. All initial reviews by Forbes, Fortune 500 and Business Week (to name only a few) were glowing and very supportive of AMEX/Walmart's new co-venture.
In early January, I transferred $25 from another debit card to see how if it worked as promised, and it did. I was tickled! I transferred another $100 and all was great.

After making about $1,300 worth of deposits and after have NO problems at all. I suddenly got an email saying that my account had been locked and that I needed to send either a W-2 form or my SS card (copy). I sent my SS card! After being told to call back in 20 minutes to see that they received it, I was told only HALF of it came through. I then sent it again and 20 muntes later I was told that all was well and that my card would be back "online" in about 15 minutes! It was! Yay! I went out to dinner and used the card and had NO problem!
HOWEVER, the next morning my partner and my mom said that THEIR cards had been locked AND they needed to send a W-2 or SS card! Hmmmm, this was fishy! About an hour later I received ANOTHER email stating that my account had been CLOSED! WTF?

When I called, I was told that I had 'broken the terms" but they would not tell me why? The AMEX Rep 'slipped up' and said that "someone" (of the three of us) had broken the terms but all three cards were closed... Guilt by association! Since NEITHER my mom's card or my partner's card were active or being used, I was curious that their accounts were closed along with mine. I was also told that my SS card had been 'altered', although Brian at Bluebird said it had been reviewed and it was fine and reactivated the account the night before! Overnight it suddenly became "altered". (Later I found out from a Supervisor that 'altered' means that it was laminated!!! WTF? My card is over 50 years old!)
I could go on and on and on, but the bottom line is that these people are THIEVES and they CONTINUE to try to take money out of my account! I've had THREE attempts of them trying to take out a total of $200 AFTER the account was closed! As for getting this money back... I'll never see it!

If you're a lawyer and reading this, a CLASS ACTION SUIT is just itching to be filed! There are so many unhappy and 'ripped off' people out there and to top it all off, I am now hearing and reading that AMEX's new card 'SERVE' is ALSO doing the same thing! Just read the complaints on here... They ARE true!
Also, if you're a State's Attorney General or Bank Commissioner you really need to crack down on these guys. AMEX is doing this to people who can ill afford it!!! They know they are an easy mark in this poor economy and that is so sad from a company that has always had an outstanding reputation! BTW, shame on you too Walmart for being a part of this SCAM!!
