Oversubscribed massage deal and unreturnable gift vouchers

They oversubscribe a massage offer. Called and emailed the provider for months. Asked Groupon to check if the company was still open. Finally reached someone and was told that they no longer are accepting the Groupon deals and that they prefer to refund all services. They had their entire staff leave due to the low return on the deal.

Groupon takes 50% of each deal, and then they have tons of people purchase it. Many of these purchases are based on the deep discounts. If you get anything as a gift you are in trouble because everything has to go back to the original account holder (EVEN if you hold the voucher)... But if you have a voucher from a store or gift cert there is no issue in the regular retail world. So why can't Groupon put a function in their system that allows you to name the person you are gifting it to? Other experience with an order for some great looking items where I had to pay the shipping. That was ok, but the item was cheap and looked nothing like the pictures. But because it was through Groupon, it was impossible to return!

There are other companies such as KGB, and Living social which are run a lot better.
