Please, do not get a job in this company

I've spent the last ten months working at the Hackensack, NJ store. Desperate for a job, $7.50 seemed better than nothing.in the course of less than a year, I observed:

- The store manager persuading us to ring up "Items of the Month" (those products at the counter that desperate employees will try to convince you to purchase to gain their only reward for bullshitting everyone into thinking a $. 99 packet of conditioner will transform your hair into that of a Pantene commercial model's) ON LARGER SALES WHERE INDIVIDUALS WON'T *NOTICE* THE ADDITIONAL $. 99 THEY DID NOT CHOOSE TO BUY.

- Our district manager, Fernando, has specifically told all managers in his district not to hire men due to "sexual harassment" issues. Meanwhile, this same district manager has spoken about me personally being "the hot new girl" to other managers.

- My co-workers have been called "racist" by customers just because they were present in the same aisle as an African American shopper; the same co-worker was screamed at to "fucking change her attitude" by another customer just because she wasn't familiar with a certain product and said so to said customer. Yet another previous co-worker was hit by a pen thrown by an irate customer simply because the employee was not able -because of the coporate policy - to split the charge between two credit cards.

- On one occasion, I was vomiting all night. An hour before my shift was supposed to begin (7:00AM!), I called my manager and told her I was sick to my stomach and could not come in. She became irate and *demanded* I come in until I found someone to cover my shift.in her 'logic', I should have called her when I first became sick at 3AM to let her know I was ill because that should have obviously been the first thing on my mind.

- The technology systems are older than I am; although I'm only 21, I can't fathom how this ridiculous company reasons that a 1988 DOS computer system could ever be considered "COMPETITION" to technologically advanced systems used by Sephora, Macy's, etc.

- The *MANDITORY* radio station plays rubbish similar to 1983 Barbie doll nails on a chalk board. Overplayed PINK and Phil Collins dominates the $12 radio that is always set on full volume.
