Poor customer service and problems when buying a ticket

I recently tried to buy a ticket from East Coast via the National railways website. After entering my payment details I received a message saying that the details were incorrect. I tried to put in the details again and the same message kept on occurring.in order to check that my bank account was ok, I rang my bank. I then realised that East Coast had taken the payment even without the correct details. If I hadn't checked my bank I might have ended up paying double the amount! I rang East Coast and explained and they said that there was absolutely nothing they can do! And blamed me for imputing the wrong details, you would have thought, however, that they could have atleast e-mailed me or displayed a message to warn me that the payment may have come out. The theory that the customer is always right seemed to be too much to ask for, it has made me change my opinion of the company.
