Jefferson Insurance Company Claims denial, extremely restricitve claims requirements, not acting in good faith

I was helping to care for my terminally ill mother (Lou Gehrig's Disease: ALS) in Vermont. The doctors could not give the family an anticipated timeline for her life/death. On June 3, I scheduled a brief mini-vacation from Burlington VT to Washington DC to leave July 21 and returning July 25th. I had scheduled other family members to help care for her. My mother died on July 17. I obviously had to cancel my flight. I submitted a claims form to Access America for $100.40 along with the completed paperwork, flight confirmation information and copy of her death certificate.

I received a letter from Access America stating that, in order to process the claim, I needed Mom's primary care physician to complete a form outlining any medicine or treatment changes my mother may have experienced in the last 120 days of her life.

Does Access America, their underwriters: Jefferson Insurance Company and BCS Insurance Company and plan administrator: World Access Service Corp (Mondial Assistance) really have the nerve to require such extreme restrictions on a small claim as a result of the death of an immediate family member? Do they realize that most terminally ill people are likely to have many changes in medicine, treatments in their final months?

I am beyond disgust. I hope this posting can help others avoid disappointment. It certainly isn't the $100.40 that bothers me. Lack of compassion and lack of reasonable risk assessment is what disturbs me. I have also sent a letter to JetBlue. Who links this (questionable) company's "services" on their website.
