Travel Agency goes under and Carnival does not honor our booking Miami

I purchased a cruise for 17 people through a travel agency in March. We booked 7 staterooms on the Carnival Triumph for March 15. Carnival accepted the booking and I was able to get on Carnival's web site to see it. It showed me my down payments, how much we owed, the date we had to submit payment, and we were able to complete our Fun Pass information. 2 weeks ago (October) we got a call from Carnival stating that the Travel Agency went out of Business. (Cruise Value Center). They said they were going to change our confirmation or booking # to reflect that we will be booked directly with Carnival. The also indicated that they would assign us a cruise specialist with Carnival. They assured me that nothing would change with regards to down payments, price of the cruise, etc... Except my booking # would change. I waited a week for an email confirmation and did not receive anything. So, I called them back. She sent me the email confirmation immediately. When I read it, my group cruise price went from $11,000 to $ 14,000 approximately. When I called back to ask why the rates went up when they promised they wouldn't, they responded that the cruise agency discounted thier commissions and such. (I didn't understand) I repeatedly asked for a supervisor and was not given one. She did put me on hold several times to talk to one, though. Just being a dumb consumer, why wouldn't Carnival honor the booking after the travel agency went out of business??? They were willing to accept it when they were in business... I don't understand. The person I spoke with at Carnival is Billie Jean @ 1-800-438-6744 ext. 24015. She is relatively nice, but didn't really give me any answers other than the travel agency cut the commissions alot to sell the cruise. What does that have to do with me???
