Sheraton Hotel Rips Off Non-Profit Ministry — Steals from Credit Card Hold

We are a small Non-profit ministry and had four total events at Sheraton in different cities. The last event was held in Sheraton Indy North and was our National Conference. During the negotiations, we were told that the most we could pay, even if we didn't book any rooms was 5,000.00. For a small ministry that sound fine.

We dealt with four different event planners and the last one threatned to cancel the event if we didn't have a credit card on file, eventhough we had paid more than half of the total cost, and We also reserved 52 rooms for three night at over $100 per night. The service was terrible, the rooms were dirty, the hallways were dark and the restaurant was overpriced.

We spent several thousand dollars with the rooms and the hotel restaurant, and utilized one dirty ballroom with a small room on the side. We had to step over junk in the hallway to enter the ballroom from the side. Much to our surprise, they sent us an email (no invoice) for nearly $25,000 and maxed out a credit card on hold for $11,000.00.

We in no way used $11,000 dollars in services and then owe them another $14,000. The stole the $11,000 from us because they bullied us into putting a card on hold by threatning to cancel the event if we didn't. Some of the ones who were coming, cancelled their reservations because of this but we still ended up with 52 rooms.

ONe of our members was kind enough to use her card, so the event wouldn't be cancelled because we didn't have a card to hold. And they stole the maximum amount on her card, by doubling the amount. We are devastated by this, we are bankrupt, and we are appalled at Sheraton.
