Class Action Suit Potential as thousands lose thousands in hyped up travel agency

Traveling & Tourism

My husband and I were excited about the prospect of being able to travel and even though we felt it was very expensive to buy into a travel agency, we were lured by the wonderful presentation. We spent over $6000 and spend an additional $200 each year and receive almost nothing in return for our investment. We receive no Air benefits, We couldn't continue with Travel courses due to this agency changing local address and local phone numbers. Now, they no longer have an office in our city.

When I have made travel arrangements using the original IATA number and later called to see why we were not paid the commission, we were told that we needed to follow up after the travel was completed to tell them that the travel occurred and that we should be compensated for the booking. They claimed that they had no way of knowing we had booked the trip or that we expected a commission.

Voyager as it originally was named when marketing their program in our area changed our IATA number when changing names to American travel Network. Now, they no longer operate the agency with an IATA number so I assume the Adam Travel component is no longer associated and no longer allows use of the IATA number. Only a CLIA number which is normally used for cruise travel. None of my normal travel arrangements use the CLIA number. When I spoke with Jim at the agency to tell him of this, he told me to try to continue to use my old IATA number to see what would happen and if the vendor might honor it. Of course the member card which must be presented at check in has the expired date and will not be honored. Hertz, Hilton and Marriott for example use an IATA number but not the CLIA number to give travel discounts or pay commission to travel agents. We paid for something we do not receive. It is difficult to have arrangements made by them and often it is difficult to find someone in the office that will follow up on bookings.

We feel that we have paid a large sum of money with almost no return and now the return has shrunk again. I would like to see someone take up the case as a Class Action Suit and help to repay all of us who were suckered into spending several thousand dollars and received nothing in return. Our $200 renewal fee per year doesn't even cover the small discount we may receive if we book through the remaining very limited CLIA agency offerrings.
