Traveling & Tourism

In March my husband and I traveled to Cancun, Mexico with our daughters for Spring Break. We stayed at the Gran Caribe Hotel.

There were people in the Hotel Lobby that encouraged us to sign up for our one half hour presentation. We finally agreed to do so on our last day there.

We had been there for most of the morning, I tried desperately to get my husband out of there, telling the salesman it was our last day there, we had to catch a plane that afternoon, and had promised the girls we'd go to the beach.

He continued his sales pitch, the pressure was intense and I could feel my husband wavering. I then brought up the buyer's remorse clause, and asked if we signed the contract how much time did we have to cancel should we decide we didn't want it.

He looked at me straight in the eye and told me, as long as you want. We were still trying to get out of there, and finally the salesman said why don't you and the girls go out and use this beach, while we finish talking.

I know he wanted me out of there because I was the one standing in the way of the sale... Before I left I told my husband not to sign anything without a remorse clause.

At least another hour later they were still not done, they said they would send my husband back in a cab and we could go back to the hotel.

When check out time arrived my husband was still not back to the hotel, we had to move our belongings down to the lobby. He finally showed up just before the bus showed up to take us to the airport.

He had joined, thinking we could use it for all of our family. Within 24 hours he was sick at what he'd gotten into.

We got home and immediately began trying to figure out how to use the membership. When we called the customer service number, no one spoke English well and we could not seem to get our questions answered.

They had given us a free week in Mexico with our membeship so we decided to use it and try and find out more about the program.

When we arrived, we were immediately contacted saying we had to attend a meeting regarding our membership, our membership started out as the Real Club.

We attended the meeting which took place at a beautiful location on a private beach, with 3 level condo's. We were then taken to a meeting room and it was explained to us that the Real Club was going out of business and they would be buying memberships. This of course would be one of the places available to us.

They explained we wouldn't be able to use our old membership but that we could buy into Premier Holiday, which ironically was the catlog that the Real Club gave us in the beginning. However, these people said they were in no way connected, and didn't know how Real got a hold of their catalog.

But they would be happy to bail us out for an additional $4,500, and would throw in 2 more free weeks in Mexico. Having already paid $6,000. We thought better to do this than lose all we had paid. We continued to pay the maintenance fee $300. And then $500. Per year for the next 3 years.

We made repeated requests over the years for updated material with no results. We went to their web site which seems to be a dummy site. When you click on an icon it does not respond, or it switches from English to Spanish.

We finally resolved ourselves to the fact that we had totally screwed up and decided to let it go.

Then in Nov. 2007 we received a notice from a collection agency, asking for more money. The agent assured us that the service was much easier to use, new customer service line, the service was out there and people were using it. We started to get our hopes up again that maybe we weren't out the money.

Then we started looking on line for thier web site again and ran across all the information from people just like us that were scammed by this company. It saved us from paying any more money...

I hope this helps someone else from falling victim to these people.
