Report in Anderson Independent Mail, Thursday, 8 Feb page B1, describing a scam by "Global Coast Cruises".investigation by Oconee County SC Sheriff Dept.

A Pickens County woman ansewered a help wanted ad for employment opportunities aboard a cruise ship. She sent an application, a uniform order form, $150, and also provided copies of her Social Security card, her driver's license, and her birth certificate.

When the woman visited the Charleston Port AUthority, Charleston, SC as she had been instructed, she was told by Port Authority staff that there was no cruise line called "Global Coast Cruises". The Port Authority staff thought the woman was scammed.

The Oconee, SC Sheriff's department believes that the woman not only lost $150 but could also become a victim of identity theft. The scam was thought to originate in Canada.
