Traveling & Tourism

In October, I made reservations at a hotel in Puerto Vallarta for my children to stay for 1 week in January. I paid for the rooms on my credit card. Two days before my children were to arrive, I received an e-mail from Sun Trips that the reservations were cancelled. No explanation - just cancelled. When we called Sun Trips, they gave us a song and dance about the company being in the process of an ownership change and that the hotels were not dealing with them pending the transfer being completed. They said our money would be refunded and that they would send us six $100.00 vouchers to be used on future travel as a way of an apology for the inconvenience (like we would ever travel through them again!). I was already in Mexico, my children were set to fly (thank goodness their airline tickets were not purchased through Sun Trips!), and we had no money and no hotel rooms. I went out and found them new rooms at the last minute - paid more than we had reserved previously and had rooms that were in a lesser hotel. I've made numerous telephone calls, and still do not have my money back. The tickets were purchased in October and 90 days had gone by when they cancelled - the credit card company will not let us dispute the charge. Today, you only get voice mail when you call Sun Trips and the mail box is full. We are out $1,227.98, plus credit card finance charges. Sun Trips is a thief and a rip-off.
