Ridiculus Fees!

I booked two seats and wanted to make a change on departure date of my flight. The person who assisted - told me that I would have to pay a penalty fee fare difference in order to make the change. I was okay with that till he quoted me $399.00 per person. That is just not right! Just to change the date of my flight - I have to pay $800.00.
So, he told me $131.00 was the penalty fee for each and I suppose the rest is the fare difference. I just ran a search through cheapoair.com for two seats with the dates I wanted and it came to $2319.80.
Originally I bought my tickets for 2135.80 so the difference is $184.
I don't really know what to say - its just sad and frustrating
