Deceptive Financial Practices

Sports

I am very frustrated to find that Aspen Fitness Center is being very UN-fit in their practices of the membership fees. First of all, I paid for Three memberships in Full, with a check, and this was a Three year contract. The three years were up, of recent, this 2012. Why in the world they Give One An Option as to how long their membership is, is beyond me & other members (wanting to be done with the assumed term after faithfully paying or paying all up front)... This Is A Revolving Membership... You are suppose to pay until you're 6 feet under. Aspen keeps renewing this for you, whether you want it or not, until you take further action. And I thought I'd keep my banking account out of the whole picture of fees by: 1.) Paying all of this up front 2.) NOT setting up the system of allowing them to take out money directly from my banking account. But, thinking like the mafia would, they, like other insatisfied members have mentioned, have sneaky ways of getting into your banking account, by un-mentioned hard to decipher contract clauses (that only a person of the law could interpret as such) when first joining their club. So, if one writes them a check with, of course, one's banking account number on the check (as is on all personal checks), NOT signing any paperwork with giving them permission to take money out monthly, Then they have automatic access to your personal bank account in a very sneaky fashion.

So, thinking I could put a stop to these once a year fees being taken out (instead of waiting on a timely personal check written to them in July), My bank advised me to add a few numbers on my already existing routing number. Well... These greedy mafia minded folks caught on to that somehow, and started taking out "membership dues" from my account for the month of June, with my 3 year contract up (all paid up from the git-go), and them Continuing your account with them, without your verbal or written permission on this. "It's in the contract you signed" is what they always go back to... Wording that is never ever brought up when you join, and wording in the contract that is never easy for a "lay" non-lawyer type person to decipher. This, is deceiving the public! So, where to go from here? I will have to decide this soon. I am currently unemployed, and cannot afford this, in this "Land of the Free and the Brave". I could also complain to the mayor of Reynoldsburg about this, etc.

If a Doctor says to his patient: I need to check your deoxiribonucleic acid, after doing a pancreaticojejunostomy and a intraosseous infusion, without any explanation, would this be fair to a non-medical person/patient? The same goes for the very small wording used, in the way it is used, in the contract drawn up by Aspen Fitness, where in actuality the wording allows them access to your banking account, once you write them a personal check, no matter what the financial agreement was or was not. America use to trust people more freely, but this causes the average consumer to be leary of businesses, and untrusting.
