Incompetent or Venal credit card billing

My gym membership is paid monthly by CC charges handled by ABC Financial. My CC was set to expire at the end of April. ABC clearly had this date on file in their computer. ABC also had my e-mail on file. Did they send me a reminder to update the expiration date? No. They tried charging the card 3 times after May 1st, had it rejected by my bank, then starting adding a $19.50 penalty and late payment fees, THEN send me a threatening, dunning e-mail for the new Past Due. All this by May 5th! Arent computers grand?

They are either incompetent or venal. I suspect venal. After this incident, I read the fine print on my gym agreement. Had I back when, I would not have signed it. Its a license to steal. Be very careful in any dealings with ABC. Cancel 30 days ahead in writing, keep copies of everything, use certified mail. More fun that dealing with the IRS! There is a movement to boycott gyms using ABC, and I see its appeal. I will now cancel this gym membership very carefully because of they use ABC.
