National Fitness Scam

My wife had a contract with Professional Fitness for personal training at our gym, where they automatically dedicated $175 from our bank account every month. Then our gym was bought out by a different gym that didn't use Professional Fitness trainers.

We followed the process to cancel the Professional Fitness contract, which involved sending a written letter to an address in Utah. The newer gym also sent a fax with the same information. After sending the letter, we verified that charges did not appear the next month.

However, the charges mysteriously started up again the next month, and to this day we are still getting billed $175 a month.

I called Professional Fitness, and they stated that they never received the cancellation letter (though charges did disappear for one month), and that our contract was "auto-renewed". To cancel, we would need to send another letter to Utah but this time via certified mail (a requirement not present the first time).

They also stated that the extra money charged could not be refunded, and can only be put towards more training, even though there are NO Professional Fitness trainers in our state anymore!

They said it "looked like" it was the responsibility of the newer gym who bought out our old gym to provide services for the extra money charged, even though the newer gym is not getting paid any of the money that Professional Fitness is taking out of our account every month. This makes no sense. What we need is our money back for the time we were never supposed to be paying for.

This company makes it as difficult as possible to cancel an account, conveniently "didn't receive" our cancellation letter, and then won't refund the extra money taken out of our account despite the fact that they can't render the services paid for. Despicable.
