Gold's Gym
Untruthful with sign up information, Not allowing me to cancel even after my COntract is up

Sports

When I signed up for my membership with Golds I was lied to by a sales rep who seemed to be hopped up on some sort of drug. I was concerned with my ability to pay each month and he assured me that if I needed to I could put my program and my payments on hold.

When I tried to do this I was informed that my payments had to continue but if I wanted to I could put the months of service on hold, if I wasn't going regularly and use them later. I was injured at the time and wanted to do this, but they charged a $25 fee in order to do this-on top of the monthly fee. I could not afford to pay this. Basically I was not able to use the services for the majority of my membership with them and wasted well over 200 dollars I'm sure.

A couple months ago I received a call from someone asking if I wanted to renew my 2 year membership I told him I did not and he assured me that it would be taken care of. He informed me that I would automatically be put onto a month to month basis, I told him I did not want this, he also told me that this would be taken care of.

I received a call the other day from a representative that told me that I had a payment that they were not able to retrieve from my account. I told them about the conversation that I'd had with the previous rep and they directed me to the corp office.

When I called them, they told me the had no record of that conversation, they only had record of conversations of several payments I had missed. I had only missed one other payment with them when i had switched bank accounts and forgot to notify them. They told me that it was in my contract that it would renew automatically and that I had to cancel this in writing. (Honestly, how would I remember from 2 years ago that I had to submit in writing especially when I was told it would be canceled). I told them that since I had not used the services because as far as I was aware it had been canceled, I didn't feel I should have to pay this last payment.

He told me that my usage did not matter and that if I refused to pay (I cannot afford to) I could not cancel my membership and that I would build op more and more fees and be taken to collections immediately. I asked for a copy of this contract because I had moved and could not find it, I had wanted to read through it and have my lawyer review it to see what I could do. Which he refused to send me when I told him it was for my lawyer, go figure.

This company has lied to me and screwed me over with no regard for my situation and no sense of any sort of customer service since day one. I recommend nobody use their services, unless of course you enjoy being involved with that sort of company. Maybe one day, they will learn the value of not ripping people off and having happy customers rather than pissed ones.
