The - SCAM artists, Dishonest sales practices, Cost me my good credit rating!

Myself and my cousin came into the Lee Hwy location in February to check into the Free 10 Day Membership they were offering on radio broadcasts and to check out the facilities.

Blake was our sales person. We asked about the free membership, who said he knew nothing about it but could offer us a 50% discount if we joined today. We told him that neither of us had jobs and couldn't afford what he was offering. He said it was not a problem. If one of us had a credit card, we could put a deposit down on 18 training sessions and SPLIT them up later on when we were billed. We told him how we had NO MONEY to spare... But he continued to pressure us until we finally gave in.

THIS PART IS IMPORTANT... We asked about cancellation. He said it would be no problem at all. All we would need to do is pay the $99 CANCELLATION FEE. Nothing was mentioned about exceptions to that. We left there and a few days later. I realized that we didn't get a copy of the contracts we had signed. I went into the gym location. Of course they said that they did not keep copies at the location and that we would have to call the corporate office. I called the office many times trying to get a copy. Finally in May. They mailed me one.

At this point, we had only used 1/2 of the 18 sessions. I was in the process of moving to another part of Georgia and inquired about cancelling my membership. They said there would be no problem... I would just need to pay the $99. But the problem is. They also wanted us to pay the FULL BALANCE of the 18 sessions stating that they were NON-CANCELLABLE and NON-REFUNDBLE. Of course, none of this was ever stated to us when we signed up. Total ripoff!!!

now. They are turning the balance of the three year contract and the balance of the sessions over to a COLLECTION AGENCY unless I agree to pay $950!!! That means over $2,700 in collections. I know this is sure to ruin my hard earned credit rating...

DISHONEST SALES PRACTICES... They tell you one thing to get you to buy in to the club and the contract says another! That is if you are lucky enough to get a copy of the contract when you join.

STAY AWAY FROM THE RUSH. I spent a lot of time trying to settle... IT ONLY ENDED IN MY FINANCIAL LOSS! Either work out at home or find another gym. These guys are greasy bears. And WILL NOT RETURN YOUR CALLS or help you at all unless they are trying to collect money from you.

It sounds like more and more people in the Southeast are having this problem with The Rush Fitness. I think it's high time... We need to seek legal action and stop these dishonest people at THE RUSH from ripping off anymore poor people. Please contact me if any of you are thinking on these same lines. Some lawyers will take cases on contingency which means you don't have to pay them any up front fees, and they take a percentage of the judgement when it's won. Just something I'm giving thought to...
