High pressure sales tactics

Sports

My daughter experienced the same type of contact as other complainants—a phone call after having entered a drawing at a mall—inviting her to come in to play "putt-putt" golf to win a trip. She was in her mid-20's and employed at a low paying job. She was also very unsophisticated regarding high pressure sales. Upon arrival, she was subjected to browbeating sales tactics, after informing the sales personnel that she was not interested and did not have the financial resources for their products. She was taken to a room and pressured into signing a credit application, which she thought would be her way out of the nightmare, since it indicated that at least $50,000 annual income was required. Once she signed the credit application, which she was assured would not obligate her or cost her any money, she was allowed to leave the store. She received a letter denying her credit in a few days, and assumed the matter was over, although she subsequently received another call from the store. She advised the caller that she did not want the merchandise or services.

Now, months later, she has been contacted by a collection agency, which eventually provided the name GE Moneybank, and which claims she owes in excess of $2500. She does not know whether her credit application was resubmitted by KiS with altered financial information and/or what other tactics were employed.

I am now assisting her to try to resolve this matter and wish she had involved me when it occurred. She has received nothing of value—no merchandise, no services—yet is being harassed.

We have requested documentation from GE Moneybank, have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and intend to file a complaint with the Tennessee Consumer Protection Agency. We intend to pursue all available remedies against this business and/or GE Moneybank. At this point, we do not have enough information to state that a fraud has been committed, but suspect that is a possibility.

Beware of this business and its tactics.
