This company boasts a revolutionary sunglass technology which is supposed to "allow for higher visual acuity and sharper contrast" and keep "colors much truer to nature than ordinary sunglasses" (wording from their Web site). They also claim to block 1005 of UVA -B and -C rays. They proudly proclaim that these are NOT ordinary sunglasses.

The sunglasses are $40.00 and come with a free "designer" case. You have six weeks to try the glasses and return them for a refund if you are dissatisfied. I ordered two pair of the glasses (you get a discount on the second pair), and here is my experience:

I wore the sunglasses for several days in different lighting conditions - bright sun to night driving, and found them no different than my other quality polarized sunglasses. They have a rose tint which takes a little getting used to, and the frames are no sturdier than regular sunglasses. I compared the "visual acuity" (especially glare reduction) VERY carefully with my other sunglasses and found that there was virtually no difference. The way Luminators are hyped in the T.V.infomercial, I expected outstanding results, something far superior to my other sunglasses, but they were the same.

I returned the glasses and cases within the first week I had them and requested a credit to my credit card. I sent them with Delivery Confirmation service from the post office.

Several days later I suspected foul play, so I called my credit union (who issued the credit card), explained the situation and asked them to cancel the charge on my account, which they did. About two days later, my credit union called to say they had delivery confirmation of the sunglasses to Luminators, but that Luminators had no record of the return. We waited about three more weeks, and when Luminators still did not issue a credit to my account, my credit union issued a chargeback, which as far as I know, has not been disputed.

The Luminators are good sunglasses, but in my opinion are overpriced and overhyped. The testimonials in the infomercial seem greatly exaggerated and overblown — the glasses just are not that great. But the real problem is getting your money back if you return them. I was suspicious when I called customer service to ask the procedure for returning the glasses, and the girl told me to be sure to use Delivery Confirmation — could it be that Luminators has a record of "not receiving" returned sunglasses?
