America's Choice Readers
Repeat calling and charged for magazines I didn't order. Rip-off!

I began a subscription in Feb. Of 2004 with America's Choice Readers. Since that time, I have received over ten phone calls asking me to repeat information that I have already given to the company, including my credit card number. I have refused to give this information since the second phone call resulted in my being charged for additional subscriptions I did not order. These came from another company (Sunshine Readers) that is supposedly connected to American Reader's.

The irony of the whole situation is that the calls are supposedly so that I don't receive other calls from them, bothering me. Apparently, they've had a few complaints. I have asked nicely not to be called again and stated firmly that I am uncomfortable giving my information and credit card info over the phone and will not do so again. I have been hung up on and treated rudely by phone representatives.

I sent a letter and an e-mail cancelling my subscriptions because calling the 1-800 number puts you into a voice mail hell which wastes valuable time. I have also contacted my credit card holding bank about stopping these payments and they have made a note on my account in case I will need to dispute these charges.

I am not confident in the outcome and want to warn others who are solicited by e-mail or phone, although the magazines are great and the price is reasonable, the phone harassment is just too much to handle.
