James Lansberry, Movers Express
Nightmare Movers

Shops, Products, Services

I hired Movers Express for a long distance, in-state move. From the beginning, Movers Express was
unresponsive. I finally got in touch with them after 1 1/2 weeks of attempted contact. The only reason I used their services after this lack of contact was because I had already paid an $800 deposit.

The day of the move, the movers (4 men) were supposed to arrive at 8 A.M. The owner of the company (James Lansberry) arrived at 9, but only to take another $200 that he insisted was necessary. At this point, we had given Movers Express $1,000 and they had provided no services.

Finally, at 1:00 P.M., James shows up with the truck. However, there were no movers with him. He
disappeared for another hour and a half, and came back at 2:30 with an 11 year old boy, whom I did not allow to move our belongings. We did not have a total of 4 movers until 3:30 P.M. - a full 7.5 hours after they were supposed to begin. The movers moved some of our belongings to the U-Haul, and, in the process, dissembled them (kitchen table, pieces of furniture, etc.). They finished around 6:30 P.M. James then disappeared on another errand - which was supposed to take 10 minutes - for one hour. We finally left State College for our new house at 7:30. My husband and I arrived at our new house at 10:20. We had been going mostly the speed limit. The movers did not arrive until 12:30 A.M. They had been going 75 mph, and only got lost for 5 minutes during the end of the drive. They were more than 2 hours late, with no excuse.

After we arrived at the new residence, there were 3 movers. However, one mover could not work, due to "chafing, " and remained in the U-haul for much of the move. James took a nap. My husband and I probably moved more than the 3 (not 4, that we had been promised) movers at our residence. They finally finished at 4:15 A.M., although they did not reassemble any of our furniture, and James proceeded to charge my husband the full amount for the move. I believe he gave us a discount of $72.75. For all of the work that we did, he should pay us!

At this point, I don't believe James has any money to refund us. He constantly asked for money before, during, and after the move (specifically, cash). However, I would like others to be wary of hiring Movers Express, given the abysmal work they did for us. The move was an absolute nightmare. We hired movers to make our lives easier, but it was worse than I could have imagined.
