Pets bought at poor health

I am a new fish keeper person and go to petsmart a lot to help me out, though they don't have all the answers so I mostly go online to figure out what's wrong
my goldfish had recently died after a few months so I cleaned out the tank completely and refilled it with new water stuck a lovely plant in there with a pH and ammonia checker and a heater (because I was planning to get some tropical fish)
I got 3 tequila sunrise guppies. One of them had a funny looking tail (I just assumed that he was just bullied in the tank at the store and thought nothing of it, after all they work here and should notice if somethings wrong right?)
a couple days later the one with the funny looking tail died. I scooped him out & took care of it. That was about 3 days ago and now one of the other ones has a split tail, definitely from fin rot. My tank pH levels are good, ammonia levels are safe and everything. Petsmart gave me a fish that had finrot and now it's killing them all. I wasn't asked if I wanted any specific ones and she didn't bother to look to see if they were all alright. Wasn't asked one question besides "which kind of fish and how many." it's quite upsetting that my fish are dying because they gave me a faulty one. This isnt the only problem thats been going on either.

My friend just got a hamster from petsmart and it turned out to be sick after she only had it for 3 days (it takes 7 to show signs of wet tailed) and it died just the other day...

I think Emplyees should be taught to properly check the health of pets before selling them. Or at least inspecting the bag of fish and saying "this one is showing signs of this... I can give you a different fish or you may purchase this."
