Disconnecting the disabled for the precious deposit / aka their seed money No One Knows For Sure

It's a lovely day in the SBC neighborhood... As long as you don't have to call anyone. This is MY story about Such a Bogus Company (SBC).
I was in the hospital for a couple of weeks. I have MS (multiple sclerosis) and had lost my eyesight for several days. When I got home, I realized my service was disconnected. I too called their goons, I mean, customer service.
When I explained to "Charlene" what happened, she said they would be happy to restore service if I paid the past due... Plus the $150 deposit. I then explained that I am on assistance awaiting my hearing for disability and I don't have $150. I got quite a smirk, then it was "there is nothing I can do"."But I am disabled", I pleaded. "Frankly, that's your problem, not ours", was her response. Lovely tone... Just get back from breaking a few knee-caps?
I then remembered seeing commercials for us poor saps aka;"deadbeats" for alternate service if disconnected. I mean, what do I do? I need a phone.
I started calling around, and this so-called monopoly lift is non-existent. All the companies were happy to help, until I got to the part that I had no dial tone. I swear I could hear fear when they said Michigan is the only state where they have no authorization to establish service (dial tone).
Now I am stuck. I have no phone service, and unless I pay "muscles" their deposit plus what I owe, I will stay that way. Hmmm, should I pay them or do something frivilous like feed my son, or get my prescriptions? This stinks.
