Failure to return refund as promised

In March I contacted my local Mediacom office to request that service be terminated at my residence on April 1st as I was moving to a new home. I was told my the lady in the office to took my request that a refund of my money that I had paid in advance for 6 months of service (I have overpaid my bill in Jaunary when I had extra money come in) since my cable would be shut off after only 4 months od service, would be refunded in 60 days.

I expected to have my money on or about the 1st of June, but no money came. I contacted to local office again to be told that for some reason my account information had been switched to another account and that they had "lost" my account information showing I was due a refund. I came to the office with my paperwork showing the original $250 i had paid in Jaunuary and proof of my move to another location. I was assured that someone would look into the matter and that my refund would be sent as soon as possible.

Weeks went by with the only contact with Mediacom being initiated on my part. I called the 1-800 number on at least 15 different occasions and never getting any real answers, only that my complaint would be passed on to whomever was in charge and i would be called back immediatly. I was only contacted once by a represenitave who assured me that the matter was cleared up and that my check would be issued immediatly.

2 more weeks went by (it was now July, one month AFTER my check was supposed to be sent) and I called again. I was still given the run around. I had finally had enough. I contacted the Asheville, North Carolina office of the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint. After filing the complaint I again contacted Mediacom through their website and informed them I had filed a complaint. This is when the fire really got to burning! I was contacted by phone the next day from a Mediacom represenitave who informed me that a check was being cut that day and would be sent overnight to me. Sure enough, there it FINALLY was. Only 1 1/2 months AFTER it was suposed to be in my hands.

I think it is sad that i had to jump through so many hoops to get my money back. Mediacom is the one who screwed this up from the beginning and was far to slow to resolve it, I wonder if I had not filed the complaint with the BBB if i still would be waiting for my money. I will remember this next time I get scammed, Ill be on the phone to the BBB alot faster next time!
