Creates a great injustice to helpless individuals

West Coast adjusters has garnished my tiny paycheck for the last 2 years for an ancient medical bill that I knew nothing about. Had I known what they were about to do I would have responded. But they never gave me a chance. Not only did they not give me a chance BEFORE they proceeded to garnish, they never gave me a chance to "settle" for a smaller or even more manageable amount than what they were taking. I have NOTHING and do not make much money and live from paycheck to paycheck already... So when they sneaked up and garnished my paycheck I lost my car and have continued to fall behind on everything. My utilities are constantly being turned off over and over again. I have to borrow money i cant pay back from my mother in order to survive. Survival is the key word here.

I have not been able to survive the garnishment and nobody at West Coast cares!!! I figure if I had anything maybe I would deserve it... But I don't have anything. West Coast adjustors has garnished me for over $5,000 for an original $800 medical bill which occured in 1998. It isn now 2011. I feel I have been violated and can do nothing about it. I can't even get an attorney because I can't afford one. I have been advancing my pay for the last 2 years so I can barely survive. It has all been a very sad punishment I feel that i don't deserve. If I could have paid the medical a long time ago i would have, but i had lost my job due to illness at that point. Where are laws to protect poor people in times like this when you feel violated? I feel they picked on me because they knew my situation and that if they sneaked up on me that I would not be able to defend myself and they would get all their money plus a lot more. Good for them... They accomplished what they set out to do... Screwed a poor helpless old lady that is ill and can barely make a living.
