Cliff Branch Collection Agency: Cliff Branch: Contacted my sister's in laws threatening to serve court paper's in two hours if I didn't contact them, used loud voice, and constant threat

Shops, Products, Services

Cliff Branch called and said that I owed money to a bank account that I've never owned. Apparently, it was opened in 1999, closed in 2005. I asked what location it was opened at he became very threatening.
He used a very calm and jolly voice. I said considering I was address a very serious matter of which I have now idea what was going on it was very inappropriate.

I got his number from my sister. He had contacted her mother-in-law and harassed her in a threatening way. Saying that if I didn't call them back in two hours they where going to serve her papers. My sister called me with the information.

I explained to the guy that I had no money. No way to get back to the state I grew up to attend the court hearing. He became very threatening, talking over me, and started saying that the amount that I owed was going to quadruple if I let it go to court.

He then said that if I paid him a large amount now, and 150 per month after it would not go to court. When I explained that this was really mentally pushing me over the edge, that I was having a really hard time find work, my mom was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness and that I could not afford to fly home to see her. My parents where divorcing and I need to find a way to go home to deal with belongings still in my room.

I told him the payments would make it that much harder.

He said they would garnish my paycheck up to $400 dollars per month.

I told him that I was very close to going over the edge. (It's hard to understand but I had been having a very hard 3 years. I couldn't take it anymore...) He then started to repeat what I was saying to someone else in the room. He said maybe I need to move home to regroup.

He said he would put it on a 24 hour hold but if I didn't call him back he was going to serve the papers. I said to him, 'how can you live with yourself'?"You realize that if I go over the edge right now it is your conscience." I said, "How do you sleep at night".

He said it was my fault and asked again do I want to pay the money and stop everything.

I started to explain that I had no money. How could he send the papers if he didn't even have my address? He then got more threatening and hung up on me. I called back and said give me the 24 hour hold.

I regained composure and my head. I started googling answers to try to find answers to my student loans and a few miscellaneous debts I owe. I called a free lawyer.

The lawyer looked them up. He couldn't find my docket number in any system. He said they most likely just performed a very illegal harassment act.

How can they live with themselves?
