Soot Slayer, Edward Spivey Chimney sweep and repair Poor service, and maybe a thief! No follow up, will not return calls

I engaged Daniel Spivey based on a well designed website to clean the chimney of a home we just purchased. The home has a 20 year old Buck Stove with a pre-fab chimney. Daniel showed up on time and took the chimney apart for cleaning. He made a pretty big mess but did seem to clean the pre-fab pipes.

After cleaning the chimney he inspected the catalytic converter and told me it needed to be cleaned. He said he would take it with him, clean it, and bring it back in 2 days. Additionally while reattaching the pre-fab chimney pipes he damaged a piece. He said no worry, I will get a new piece and reinstall it when i bring your converter back in 2 days.

That was almost 3 weeks ago. After he missed the 2 day time he had given me I called him and he told me he was sorry but that his wife Michelle was very sick and might need to get her leg amputated. He told me he would come to the house in a day or two. He did not show up and has refused to answer my calls even though I left over 20 voice messages. I believed he was avoiding me based on caller ID so I had my wife call him from her office phone. Guess what? Yep, he answered right away.

So now Daniel has apparently stolen my $450.00 catalytic converter and left me with a disassembled wood stove. I paid him $300.00 for his services and once he got the check he disappeared.

Do not use this company or any of the others that Daniel Spivey is involved

The jury is still out on whether he is just incompetent or a run of the mill thief. I am going to leave that call up to the local police.
