Classbook.com
Aka Classbook Unreliable, non-responsive and questionable "business" ripoff

Shops, Products, Services

If you are a college student looking to purchase books, look elsewhere.

RED FLAG #1
Won't tell you if they have an item until you order.

The trouble started in the very beginning when I attempted to determine if a book was available. I emailed the company to ascertain the availability only to be told that they will not answer ANY questions about the book until an order is placed.

RED FLAG #2
Their system does not give you a confirmation email.

We decided to order the book anyway. As soon as the order is placed, a confirmation number is provided; however, an email is not sent confirming the order. Note: If you do not print the page or write down the number, there is NO other way to find the status of your order. Fortunately, I did keep the information.

RED FLAG #3
They do not bother to contact you when the order is cancelled.

Given the holidays, I expected the shipment of the book to take a bit longer than usual. I accounted for this by ordering the book a month early. The book did not arrive and I received nothing from the company explaining why.

I checked the status of the order to find that it had been cancelled two days after I ordered it. However, the company never bothered to email me or send a postcard or otherwise notify me of the problem. The whole time I was looking for it to show up, the company absolved itself of any obligation to let me know they were not sending the book by placing a one line statement on their "status" page.

"Order Canceled (sic) and your credit card was not charged."

RED FLAG #4
There are no phone numbers (other than a fax for professors ONLY) and no contact names.

Lesson learned - If you can not get a name, phone number or direct email address for a company, don't bother.

RED FLAG #5
They ONLY accept credit card payments.

Lesson learned - If you don't know how you are dealing with, don't leave your credit card number regardless of their "safe shopping" guarantee. Clearly, this company never even bothered to look for this book, so why must everyone place a credit card order BEFORE they will even let you know if they have it? Seems rather suspicious in hindsight.

At this point, nothing mysterious has shown up on the credit card, but I'm keeping a close watch on it.

Final note

I know us college students are struggling to pay bills and deal with the gouging we get from book publishers and professors who get kickbacks for changing text almost every semester. However, scrape up the money and find a way to buy the book at more reputable places. Now, I've spent more in rush delivery than I would have saved had Classbook ever bothered to honor their price and commitment. Not worth the hassle.
