"Additional" charges not specified in quote at every step

This is concerning an interstate move from New York City to IL. I received a quote for $1,383. The quote language, said this price quote included all services, fees etc. I was told my things would be delivered between, 10/24 and 10/27 and I would get 24 hour notice before the scheduled delivery. At the pickup, after packing all my things on the truck, the mover says, "no now the price is $3,000, because you are taking up more room in the truck, then we thought." I showed him the estimate and we went through by item to clarify that I did not have one more item than as listed on the quote. He said he could not take my things unless I paid him $2,400 now. I called the main office for New Jersey Van Lines, told them about the misunderstanding and requested someone call me to rectify the situation. Over the course of the next 3 weeks, I called the main office over 10 times and left messages. I NEVER received a call back.

After calling 6 times in one day, I finally got a call directly from a driver. Then on 11/13 I receive a call from a different driver that said "we deliver now". The two Russian "thugs", which is the only way to describe them, were very aggressive with me and my mother. They got in her face and said it would cost $300 to move the things in because there was an extra set of stairs. They said I had to sign the form (manifest) before they moved anything in and pay the balance of $600 in cash. I paid the $600 balance. My parents asked the movers to put down blankets on the stairs to avoid ruining their carpet, the movers said "we don't do that". They damaged the carpet. I've had to pay to have it professionally cleaned. One duffel bag filled with expensive dresses (about $4k in value) was not delivered. After hostile negotiations, we agreed upon $150 extra "for the stairs". It felt like I got shaken down for more money.instead of the $1,383 represented to me as the estimate, I got charged over $3,000 and lost $4k in valuables. They had my things for 3 weeks, with no communication throughout.
