I used their service to do a $1.95 name search and was very carefull about looking for boxes that were automatically checked to indicate I was signing up for additional services. Seeing none, I placed my order and was billed $1.95 and got my report.

When reviewing my bank statement, I saw an additional charge for $24.95 from peoplefinders.com and called the "800" number for listed for the company.

I was informed that I had signed up for a monthly service and since I had not cancelled within seven days, I was billed for the first month's service.

I protested that I did not see anywhere during the ordering process that indicated I was purchasing more than the name serach. The customer no-service rep was of no help and explained that while she could cancel my service, they have a no refund policy.

Later that day after looking at the website again and reviewing my order information, I called back and spoke with a different person. I repeated my dissatifaction at the deceptive practices of the company and requested screen shots of any pages in the ordering process that showed where I agreed to sign up and copies of any emails they claimed were sent to me as I was going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and our state's attorney general office.

My story does have a somewhat happy ending as this customer service rep asked for me to hold for a few minutes and then came back and said she cancelled my membership and refunded the $24.95. I waited until I actually had the money back in my account before posting this report.
