I was a good paying customer of AT&T for about 2 years. Never late on a bill.in jan i called about having my friend take over the account. They said that was fine, that she would have to provide payments for 6 months in good standing. Well that was fine.in june we called and had the account switched over to her name, address and ssn for access. She received her bills monthly at her address, with her name only on the bill., as a matter of fact, the last bill she showed me, since she has turned the phone off, showed a credit balance.

In January i got a p/c from collection (NCO) advising that my at&t account was delinquent for $500 dollars since june. I explained that that was when she took over the account. After being in touch with at& t and their so-called customer service, i found that they had no records of who they actually talked to when the phone calls were made, only that the "debtor" called. Since that time, I have been disputing this charge. Both my friend and I have phoned at&T and nco, only to find that the persons at at&t tell her her account, which is the same account number as mine, is a zero balance and she is in good standing, yet the account in my name, is delinquent.

We have spent almost a year dealing with this and i am very frustrated as well as angry that they have no record of the people they talked to or that they cannot seem to understand that the accounts are the same account number. Furthermore, they (NCO) rcvd my second dispute letter and have since then returned the account to at&t and now it was sent to yet another collection agency, of which i have to notify of the dispute. AT&T and NCO both have my correct address info, but they still send all letters to myself at my girlfriends address.

I have supplied them with both her information and mine, but they have not yet pulled this from collection. When i spoke to at&t rep at the 800 customer service line, they informed me that the account number i gave them showed to be in collection, yet when i gave them the same account number, with my friends ssn#, they showed a zero balance. They said that they do not see the problem. Why can't anyone see that this is the same account, and it is paid in full!!!

I have always had impecable credit, no marks. Now I am fighting tooth and nail to hang on to that history because of at&t's unfair documentation practices. If they would have recorded the calls as they suggest, where the hell are the tapes? I would lke to hve them transcribed and sent to me. Also, why do they not use names of people they speak to. All we are to them is a Debtor. What kind of big corp would document so frivoulously?

If anyone else has been through anything like this with AT&t, please give me some advice on how to clear this matter up, short of just paying the bill and having a black mark on my outstanding credit history. So far, i have managed to keep it off the credit reports, but i feel i can only dispute with them soo long before this happens. The only consolation is according to the fair credit and collections act, they cannot do so as long a i am disputing the case.

I URGE ANYONE WHO HAS AT&T TO CONSIDER SWITCHING TO ANOTHER CARRIER AS IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS YET WITH BILLING, BE AWARE THAT YOUR TIME WILL COME. As u can see from this website, there are several people who at&t wireless have ripped off. Also, the other thing, if my account is delinquent for over $500, why does at&t wireless keep calling me and saying that my name and my credit have been chosen by them to offer me a new wireless phone and plan. What a joke. I wouldn't give an at&t wireless phone to a dead man to call for help!!! At&t would have to pay me before I would use their services or recommend them to anyone.
