I joined E&A around a year ago, during the interview I was told several things (none of which turned out to be true). I was new to DC and wanted to make some new friends and when I heard the ad I figured I'd give it a shot. I have to say that the price was high, but the promised mostly free events and the others would be low cost so I went ahead and joined.
At the beginning the events were fun and interesting and the people that I meet were normally good people. Then that event planner left and things went downhill quickly. The quality of people you meet started to go from fun to creepy; with most of them just looking for their next conquest or with children my age (Im 31). The events became repetitive, started earlier (6-630pm), and the weekend events went from an average of $15-$45 to the $100 and up range. I guess this company thinks that all of their members want to pay more to attend an event with them than it would cost to do the event on their own. I have yet to find one of the scheduled events that cost the price that they are charging their members.
When I complained I was asked for suggestions and they summarily dismissed them all because it would require the office staff to plan events in advance and call vendors more than a week before an event. When I asked to quite the group I was told I was in a contract and even if I was unhappy with the services I had to continue my membership unless I moved 100 miles from any E&A office, got married, or co-habituated with a significant other. All of these required 2 proofs in the form of bills addressed to me and the other person (if applicable). Even if I did cancel it would only stop the $30 a month charge for being a member, under no circumstances would there be a prorated refund of unused membership time.
Given the other meet-up type groups that are out there this organization is a scam and all they care about is your money. There is no interaction with the staff that doesnt revolve around them putting on a happy face for your money; as soon as you express displeasure with the events they turn off the happy face and treat you like trash.
Even with all the crap this group puts you through and there is a lot; I found a very good women at one of the events and made a few good friends. I decided to write this review to let everyone know what kind of group this is so if you decide to give them your money you dont fall for the lies they tell you and are aware of what you are paying for and can expect to find. Overall I believe this organization and their leadership are a scam but they have very good contract writers and lawyers behind them.
Before you pay Events and Adventures any money I would highly recommend trying the meet-up groups you can find on the web.in my opinion they offer a better experience and the price is so much better.in fact most of the cool people I meet in E&A joined other groups in the end.
Hope this review helps you
Mike
